I'm Scottish, from Glasgow. I've lived in London for a long time. My first novel, Milk, Sulphate and Alby Starvation, came out in 1987. I've had around 16 books published. My new novel, The Anxiety of Kalix the Werewolf, will be published in August this year, by Piatkus.

As well as writing books under my own name, I also write a series of fantasy books about Thraxas under the pseudonym of Martin Scott. At the moment, I'm busy republishing all my Thraxas novels as ebooks, after which I have a new Thraxas book ready to publish, Thraxas and the Ice Dragon.
